As editor-in-chief of Vogue Australia, Edwina McCann has interviewed many of the world’s most famous faces. However, none have impressed her more than Australian actor Margot Robbie.
McCann says she has witnessed a number of stars get caught up in their own fame — but Robbie has not changed since she made her debut on Neighbours 11 years ago.
“Margot is just one of those golden girls who just sells and sells and sells magazines, but on a personal level I adore her,” McCann told Sunday Confidential.
“Often early in their careers, when celebrities get these first tastes of fame, is when you get some of the most pretentious behaviour. Then as they settle in and become more comfortable with their fame and their ability, people mellow and become easier.
“But Margot has been like this from day dot. She has never changed. She is clearly very comfortable with who she is, she is motivated for the right reasons and is driven by the work and treats fame as a by-product of it and doesn’t seem to be swept up in it. She doesn’t act like a diva. She is just a good Aussie girl.”
Hollywood heavyweight Quentin Tarantino, who directed Robbie in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is equally intrigued.
“Quentin Tarantino is honestly amazed at her rise in Hollywood and how rapid it has been and is quite fascinated with where she has come from,” McCann said.
Robbie, the cover star of Vogue Australia’s coveted September issue (on sale tomorrow), is featured in four collectable covers to celebrate her role in the critically acclaimed movie alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
The issue includes an interview between Robbie and Tarantino, while Robbie’s mother Sarie Kessler also talks to her daughter about their favourite shared memories.
