Marc Leishman says Tiger Woods can be beaten at Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne

Tiger Woods appears unstoppable, but Marc Leishman says one simple thing will help topple the golf legend and his US team at the Presidents Cup.

Marc Leishman touched down in Melbourne on Sunday, ready to take on Tiger Woods and his US team at the Presidents Cup.

Leishman will check out the Royal Melbourne course on Monday before playing the Australian Open in Sydney.

He will lead the home team from December 9.

“There’s always a Tiger factor, but I think you can’t look at one person in a team,’’ Leishman said.

“The senior guys definitely have to play well but everyone has to. We just have to play well, it’s as simple as that.

“I’ve been looking at this Presidents Cup in particular and to qualify No.1 was pretty cool, but it means nothing now. I want to be a leader on the team.”

Leishman will be joined by his wife Audrey and their three children during the Presidents Cup and will spend Christmas at home.

“It will be special and hopefully we can have a trophy or two,’’ he said.

“I’ve had a few chats with (International team captain) Ernie (Els). He’s keeping everything pretty close to himself.

“I think there’s going to be some surprising pairings from what he’s saying, but I think we need that and we need to change things up.

“He’s got a plan and he’s confident in his plan. It’s really important for us to get off to a good start and that can get the crowd into it.”

Leishman is launching Leishman Lager, a mid-strength beer which will be available this month at Royal Melbourne, The Emerson in South Yarra and Pontoon at the Stokehouse.

“I feel like Australian beer knocks me over quicker than American beer does, but this won’t do that,’’ he said. “It will be nice to celebrate with a few of those.”
