Much-loved former North Melbourne star Majak Daw has split from his partner Emily McKay.

The pair share a one-year-old son Hendrix and are making him their priority following the separation.

This year has been a rollercoaster for Daw, who made a remarkable comeback to the AFL by playing his first match since 2018.

In December that year he suffered serious pelvic and hip injuries after falling from Melbourne’s Bolte Bridge.

Just 14 months on, Daw returned to AFL action in a pre-season match and then re-emerged in season 2020 while in the Queensland hub.

He was since one of 11 players delisted by the Kangaroos but the 29 year-old has said he’s prepared to do whatever it takes to find a new footy home.

When he made his return to the field at the start of August, McKay posted an adorable video of her and Hendrix cheering him on the television from Melbourne.

McKay also sent a heartfelt message of thanks to those who helped him recover.

“Every nurse, doctor and surgeon we met along the way. Words can’t describe how grateful we are and how amazing you are,” McKay posted to Instagram.

Daw thanked his family after the game, and wished McKay and Hendrix were with him in the AFL hub.

“Emily, she’s been great. She’s looking after (Hendrix). My mum and dad, they’ve been chopping me out, babysitting, so we’ve got a lot of support at home,” he said.

McKay has this week launched a new tan product with her successful business Spray Aus which she also owns with Ellie Pearson and Nadia Bartel and Bec Judd who featured in the latest campaign.

Back in August during Melbourne’s lockdown, McKay also posted a message with words of support to those doing it tough.

“For anyone that’s struggling right now,” she wrote. “And I know there are a lot out there. Happiness is in health, family — mum, dad, brothers, sisters, cousins, friends, friends that are family and those that you call fam. Protect them.”

In May this year McKay told the Herald Sun that Daw had slotted in well to his new off-field role as a father since Hendrix was born in August last year.

“He’s really good,’’ she said.

“Even with my nieces and nephews. He’s never been too scared to pick up a baby or give them a bottle or be silly with them, so that definitely helps.”
