MADISON Avenue star Andy Van says he has turned down lucrative reunion show offers because lead singer Cheyne Coates doesn’t want to perform.

MADISON Avenue star Andy Van has turned down lucrative reunion-show offers because lead singer Cheyne Coates doesn’t want to perform.

“This year, I’ve had five gig requests. Not little ones, but big ones, worth a lot of money,” said Van.

“Each time I went to Cheyne, and she’s just not interested in doing that anymore. Her world has moved on. She’s married with three kids. Her life is in a different place now.

“I don’t want to speak on her behalf, but each time she seems less and less interested.”

Those songs, and the album Polyester Embassy, released in 2000, dominated the charts and the ARIA Awards that year.

“I’m still the same person I was 17 years ago,” Van said.

“I still work in clubs every weekend, I’m still awake and partying at four in the morning.

“I still love dance and electronic music.”

Van says he would never do a Madison Avenue gig without Coates.

“She is the face and voice of Madison Avenue,” he said.

“Cheyne is the one they want to see.”

Meanwhile, Van and associates, including Dom Dolla and Dr Packer, have remixed Who The Hell Are You? for 2017 dancefloors.

“It was tricky,” he said.

“The whole EDM (electronic dance music) thing has been going on, and I didn’t want to go down that path.

“Thankfully, the vocals and samples still hold up.”

Lyrically, the song is a gutsy commentary from Coates about “not taking s--- from guys”.
