The columnist spoke to Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa about how they spent their first night since the story broke.

“I am very proud of Mrs Wilkinson but I’ll let her speak for herself,” he said on air today.

“I’ll just say very quickly, we had dinner last night with the kids and it was interesting, I’d forgotten the pleasure of being with your partner when someone doesn’t have to get up at 3am.

“We were talking until midnight and it was just fantastic and I said to her, ‘I had forgotten what this was like’.

“Where you’re just the two of you and I think tonight we might go to the movies. It is obviously been an intense couple of days. It’s nice to have her back.”

It comes after Nine hit back at Wilkinson’s dramatic defection, revealing the star was demanding $2.3 million and was spreading herself too thin with rival commercial commitments.

The 57-year-old will join The Project, where she is rumoured to become Australia’s highest paid TV personality.

Overnight, Wilkinson uploaded a photo on Instagram of herself during a gym session with her daughter Billi.

“When your kids are proud of you, that’s everything,” she simply wrote online.
