Pop superstar Kylie Minogue says she’s moving home to Melbourne to find “work-life balance” after 30 years of living in the UK.

Pop superstar Kylie Minogue says her parents are “over the moon” about her plan to move back to Melbourne.

“I just thought there’s been so much change, and we’ve had to adapt and think differently in the past 18 months, that I’d like a bit more time with family,” Minogue said in a Nova radio interview on Thursday.

“It’s about addressing my work-life balance and trying to be more sensible with my time.”

She added: “My parents are over the moon”.

Kylie’s confirmation follows a Herald Sun report on Wednesday about her mission to move home to be close to family and friends.

Minogue recently wrapped an eight-month stay in Melbourne with her parents, Ron and Carol, and has returned to London to promote a new single and repackaged album.

She and boyfriend Paul Solomons, a creative director at GQ magazine, will do a long-distance relationship once Kylie moves back to her old stomping grounds.

Solomons will visit Melbourne “as and when he can,” Minogue said, adding, “it’s interesting and liberating doing things a bit differently”.

Minogue could be shimmying down Swanston St in her hotpants and become Queen of Moomba if she takes up an offer by City of Melbourne Lord Mayor Sally Capp to move to the CBD.

“The City of Melbourne would like to formally invite you (and your hot pants) to consider shimmying into our municipality,” Ms Capp said in an open letter.

Ms Capp said: “We can’t get you out of our heads after hearing you are moving to Melbourne! In fact, we think this will be love at first sight.”

Kylie needed to consider the city’s “world-renowned music and culture” and “glitz and glamour” with showpiece events like the Spring Racing Carnival, Fashion Week and the Australian Open as compelling reasons to move to the city, Ms Capp said.

“From October 26, the Buzz will be BACK. While we might not have Ramsay St you could swing by Carlton’s Rathdowne St for an espresso that’s better than the devil,” Ms Capp wrote.

In further evidence of her local roots, Music Victoria on Thursday night inducted Minogue into its Hall of Fame.

She has relished spending quality time in Melbourne this year, with frequent visits to her sister, Dannii, and her son, along with brother Brendan, and his son.

Minogue told BBC radio on Wednesday she still planned to spend time in the UK.

“I’ve lived here for 30 years. I’m always going to be back,” she said. “Don’t worry, I won’t be a stranger.”

Kylie’s homecoming plan comes amid of period of reset — and real estate rewards — for Minogue and her family.

Last month, Kylie quietly sold the Cambridge St, Armadale home she’s owned for more than 30 years in a seven-figure deal.

Minogue offloaded the property for $1.715m.

She bought the pad for $185,000 in 1990.

The Minogue family also listed a $20m Hawthorn office property where Ron Minogue worked as an accountant.

It was also the headquarters for KDB Pty Ltd, which Ron used to invest for his family.

The site at 108 and 110 Church St was bought for $12.5m in 2007.

In June, Dannii bought a Hawthorn East house priced at $3.2m for an undisclosed sum.

Kylie has a number of companies in Australia, including KDB Holdings, which owns properties in Canterbury, Balwyn and Richmond.

Last year, while in London, Minogue told Allure Magazine the pandemic had forced her to think about life’s priorities.

“I, like so many people, had the time to reflect and perhaps understand myself and what’s really important,” she said.

“I feel almost guilty that I’ve been able to keep working and create when there are just so many stories of people not being able to stay afloat.

“I don’t wish anything for myself,” she added.

“I want it to be better for all people.”

Soon after, she told ABC-TV’s 7.30 Report: “I am so grateful to be well, but I have never felt further from home, or my family”.

However, Kylie also told a podcast her boyfriend, GQ magazine creative director Paul Solomons, wouldn’t want to live Down Under.
