Shock jock Kyle Sandilands has confirmed he and girlfriend Imogen Anthony have split after eight years together.
Despite strenuously denying that the two were living separate lives earlier this year, Sandilands finally admitted to the separation this morning on his KIIS FM breakfast show Kyle and Jackie O.
Sandilands, 48, and Anthony, 28, reportedly had not been living together for a few months.
Anthony, a prolific Instagram user, had also not posted anything about her millionaire beau since June.
An obviously and unusually downcast Sandilands addressed the rumours after apparent overwhelming public interest this morning.
“A lot of people have been hitting us up on social media, a few phone calls, some media inquiries about my relationship status,” he said, his voice cracking slightly.
“We haven’t been living with each other for a few months, quite a few months now, unfortunately it’s run its course.”
“I’m sorry Kyle,” Jackie O said.
“That’s alright, so here we all are in the same boat,” he replied.
“You’re single, I am, intern Pete is. Jesus, what a sad bunch of people.
“We laughed at the others running around and trying to look for love in all the wrong places. Only to end up s**t out of luck ourselves.”
The crew discussed relationships and being single for a short while longer before Sandilands wrapped up, saying: “Ok so we won’t be going into any detail about anything, that’s just the way it is. No problems there — you know how it is.”
Aside from the headlines, the couple’s relationship had been relatively drama free, especially considering their equally large personalities.
They own a farm together and last year Anthony described them as “the same person”.
“We are exactly the same person, just a male and female version 20 years apart,” she told News Corp.
“I don’t think we could live without each other.”
In May this year Anthony told The Daily Telegraph that the pair discussed wedding plans “all the time” but were not in a hurry.
“We are just chill,” she said. “We talk about it all the time. We know that as soon as that happens it will be when is the wedding, when is the baby.
“We saw Jasmine and Karl (Stefanovic) on Sunday and they are so happy and glowing but we are taking our time.”
The split makes Sandilands one of Sydney’s most eligible bachelors, with his own TV and radio shows, a collection of sports cars, a huge property and an alleged $20 million pay packet.
The split added to a rough year for Sandilands who was earlier this year run out of the country by Christians after he made a joke about the Virgin Mary.
He later apologised on air.
