Jess Gomes has walked her final runway for department store David Jones.
The Aussie model has announced that after eight years, she will no longer be working with the brand that made her a household name in her home country.
Gomes had enormous shoes to fill when she signed on as ambassador for David Jones in August 2012, replacing Victoria’s Secret superstar Miranda Kerr.
“Well that’s a wrap on 8 amazing years as Brand Ambassador for David Jones,” the 35-year-old wrote on Instagram.
“What a privilege and honour it has been to represent this iconic Australian brand that has and continues to be a pioneer in the world of retail and luxury experience. It has been so wonderful to grow and evolve together on this collaborative journey, and we have done so creating many magical moments including the launch of my own beauty brand Equal Beauty.”
Rumours have long suggested Gomes days with David Jones were numbered as retailers face increasing pressure in the current market. David Jones has over recent campaigns introduced Victoria’s Secret model Victoria Lee to its mix, walking in shows and fronting editorial shoots.
“From the runways to shooting campaigns, to store openings and more I will be forever grateful for this incredible experience, having made so many amazing memories with an exceptional group of creatives that will forever continue to inspire me and remain life long friends,” Gomes wrote.
Gomes’ contract expiring comes as rival Myer earlier this year launched a fresh new campaign fronted by actor Asher Keddie while Rachael Finch, Elyse Knowles and Kris Smith are also ambassadors for the retailer.
Based in Los Angeles, former Sports Illustrated model Gomes has over recent years focused more on acting and has appeared in films including Once Upon A Time In Venice and Transformers: Age of Extinction.
A David Jones spokeswoman said Gomes had walked in more than 14 runway shows for David Jones.
“After a wonderful eight-year partnership, 2019 will be Jess’ final year as a David Jones Ambassador, as she pursues exciting new horizons and we thank Jess for her commitment and dedication,” the spokeswoman said. “Jess will always be a part of the David Jones family and we wish her the very best for the future.”
