Collingwood’s first lady Alex Pendlebury is set to make a dazzling return to the Brownlow Medal.
A red carpet favourite, the wife of Magpies captain Scott can’t wait to step out and toast the team’s success this season at footy’s night of nights.
“This year will be super fun, the last Brownlow I was pregnant with Darcy and she’s now two and a half,’’ Pendlebury said.
“There’s been so many close games this year and it’s been so exciting. Scott is so happy. He loves his footy, loves playing and doesn’t want it to come to an end!
“He’d love another premiership, obviously it’s what they play for and he’s definitely no exception to that so fingers and toes crossed for our prelim.”
Pendlebury will wear Oglia-Loro Couture, styled by Paul Versace from Styled by Bloom, who is promising a knockout ensemble.
Meanwhile Natalie Docherty, wife of Carlton star Sam, is filled with pride after he beat cancer and made a successful footy comeback this season. There was one particular heartfelt moment she won’t forget, when Sam embraced fellow cancer survivor, North’s Ben Cunnington.
“Sam and Ben have such a nice relationship and I talk to Belinda (Ben’s wife) a lot,’’ Docherty said.
“We were both going through it. Round 1 when Sam kicked a goal was beautiful and you realise it’s more than just a game. It’s a community and everyone has been so supportive.”
Docherty, expecting the couple’s first child in January, will wear a gown by Kyha Studios to the Brownlow.
“He’s done two ACLs and has had two bouts of cancer as well . . . perspective is what we have a lot of,’’ she said.
“I’m so proud, the whole year we were saying as long as you make it through the season and everything is going well, that’s a successful year for him.”
Docherty will be full of pride when she steps out with Sam at the Brownlow on Sunday, wearing a gown by Kyha Studios.
The couple is expecting their first child in January.
“It’s been a year now since chemo and every three months he’ll have a scan and check-up.
“I’m so proud, the whole year we were saying as long as you make it through the season and everything is going well, that’s a successful year for him. And he got through every game.
“I found out in May that I’m pregnant so I’m 22 weeks now and I feel really good.
“I’ve been blessed and had an easy pregnancy so far. It feels like everything is back to normal.”
She said the Brownlow would be a chance to celebrate the season before they head off on their belated honeymoon to Italy.
“It’s going to be really fun, the first one here in a few years so the anticipation is a little higher,’’ she said.
