Brynne Edelsten has denied she’s a quitter after making an early exit from SAS Australia.
The socialite and former wife of late controversial businessman Geoffrey Edelsten withdrew from the brutal military style show during the first episode on Monday night.
She conceded she didn’t really stand a chance despite thinking she was mentally strong enough.
“I injured my knee and was struggling to put weight on it, so I wasn’t going to push myself to continue when I knew I couldn’t or that I could risk doing more damage,’’ she said.
“I’d psyched myself up. I was ready to do all of it and I trained really hard.
“But even having done all that, I can see now that I really didn’t stand a chance.
“While my body was really stronger than I was used to, it just wasn’t strong enough for what they do. I wasn’t fit enough for what they do. I don’t think most people are fit enough. No matter how much I wanted to do it mentally, my body just couldn’t keep up.”
Edelsten, who has an October court hearing after being arrested in May and charged with trafficking ice, also spoke about her marriage, which ended in 2014.
“I was 25, he was 65, 40 years difference,” she said. “But it was a very, very lonely relationship. I went six years without sex. That’s not normal.”
Edelsten said she wasn’t a quitter.
“The DS (directing staff) were saying that I’d already given up and I’d already quit,’’ she said.
“My reaction was like ‘No, I have no idea what you’re taking about’ and I was trying to act like I was all fine until I got back in the car and I knew then I was done.
“The first thing I did when I left the course and got back to where we were staying was I had a shower, dried my hair, put on some girly clothes finally instead of those unisex clothes we were wearing.
“I had a few classes of wine and a nice meal. Then a few more glasses of wine. Then a long, really long sleep. God knows I needed it. I felt like a truck had hit me.”
Edelsten said she most missed her dog, Juddy.
“I missed him most of all,’’ said.
“He’s with me all the time. All I could think about was getting back home to him and cuddling him and sleeping with him. Unfortunately that did take a few days, but I got there.”
