How Matt Agnew spent premiere episode

Finding love on TV is strange, but knowing mum and dad are watching your every move? Bachelor contestant Matt Agnew confirmed he had found love with a “perfect” woman, despite his parents looking on.

The Bachelor Dr Matt Agnew says he got the reaction he wanted to the premiere episode — his parents’ tick of approval.

“I watched it with just a few close friends here in Melbourne (and my parents) were in Perth and had the delayed telecast,’’ he said.

“They said they were very happy. They saw me on the show and there was nothing where they watched it and were confused and thought this wasn’t me as they know me. If that’s the case that’s definitely the tick of approval as far as authenticity goes.

“I really wanted to make sure it was quintessential Matthew that came across and people weren’t watching thinking, ‘who is this person’.

“Your parents are going to know you best and the fact they were really pleased to see me, it’s a testament to the production they’re trying to get real people and raw and true emotions.”

Agnew said it was weird watching himself on television but it was worthwhile as he confirmed he had found love with a “perfect” woman.

“I am still in that kind of zone. I still very much feel agree with that sentiment,’’ he said.

“When I was first waiting there I was thinking what am I doing, how have I ended up in this position.

“The heart is thumping, adrenaline pumping. I’m nervous. But after meeting the first few women those nerves melted away and it was a really fun, exciting, very unique experience.”

Of clips showing him getting intimate with multiple women, he said: “It is a dating show after all. It is really important when seeking out a partner and a successful relationship to not just have the emotional connection but physical connection as well. I was under no illusion I’d be engaging in those activities.

“For me I surprised myself how quickly I became comfortable in front of the camera. I managed to block that out soon after filming started and it felt really natural.”
