MOVIE stars Ice Cube and Kevin Hart paid tribute to hundreds of fans who crammed every vantage point to get a glimpse of their heroes at Melbourne Central tonight.
Cube and Hart attended the Australian premiere of their buddy cop movie Ride Along 2 squeezed into four levels in the shopping centre.
Rapper-turned-actor Cube told Confidential: “Oh, man, it’s very special. I’ve been coming to Australia for years and now we’re starting to come with our movies, not just records, and it’s a beautiful thing.”
“They can feel it, man,” he said, smiling and waving at the fans. “We’re real people. We’re not Hollywood, we’re not trying to be Hollywood. We’re trying to connect with real people and they bless us with support all over the world.”
Ride Along 2 is a sequel to the 2014 hit which casts Hart as a rookie cop trying to prove himself to Cube, who plays a seasoned detective.
“Chemistry is what people feed off in these movies,” Cube, born O’Shea Jackson, said. “You can have all the explosions and pretty girls, but without that good chemistry, you don’t want to ride with Cube or Kevin.”
His son O’Shea Jr is trying to shape an acting career after playing his father in the NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton.
Cube said his only advice to his boy is “be proud of everything you do. Money will come flying at you from all directions, but never do a movie you wouldn’t go see yourself.”
Guests at the premiere included rapper Briggs, Shane Warne’s ex wife Simone Callahan, AFL footballer Majak Daw, reality star Emily Simms and comedian Tommy Little.
