Hamish McLachlan reveals next big move in new life adventure

Channel 7 host and commentator Hamish McLachlan is embarking on a new adventure, moving his family to the south of France — and he jokes his brother Gill might “do my lawns”.

Channel 7 host and commentator Hamish McLachlan will head off on his European sabbatical in two weeks.

McLachlan, wife Sophie and their children Milla, 11, Indi, 9 and Lexi, 7, will live in a small country town in the south of France called Mougins.

The brother of former AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, is excited for a new life adventure.

“Gill might do my lawns, he’s unemployed,’’ McLachlan said.

“I think it’ll be incredible. The kids start school in January, I don’t have anywhere to rush to and I’ll do lunches and pick-ups. I’ve already asked if I can be an assistant coach at school sports. My oldest is a gun skiier, the two older girls are really good. The youngest will be looking for dinosaurs.”

McLachlan will return to host the Magic Millions in January and will be part of Channel 7’s commentary team for Opening, first and second rounds of footy. He will also return for Brownlow and Grand Final duties.

“Seven have been great and life will take me in the right direction,’’ he said.

McLachlan has a gig lined up in Colombia and also with Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou in London.

One of McLachlan’s last hosting spots was interviewing AFLW legend Erin Phillips at Wednesday’s AFLW grand final lunch.

Phillips said she was looking forward to Sunday’s decider between North Melbourne and Brisbane, and also spoke about her career, family and footy.

A touching moment came when a video was played of her with footy legend dad Greg after she joined Port Adelaide.

“It was funny I do remember a time when my sisters and I were at a pub and a guy came in and he looked at me and said, ‘you should have been a boy, your dad needed a son to play for Port Adealaide’ and Dad turned to this guy and said which one would you like me to trade because I think they’re perfect,’’ Phillips said.

“Constantly Dad was having to say that to so many people. Even family members were saying it. I’m so lucky, my sisters and I, there was not one moment where we were ever doubted Dad wanted a son or we weren’t enough for him. He was the greatest girl Dad.”
