Hamish Blake has given a raw insight into how his life has changed since becoming a father.
The comedian and host of Lego Masters says his two young children, Sonny and Rudy, have given him greater perspective.
“All we’re doing in life is trying to have great genuine moments,’’ he said.
“I just find myself constantly just trying to slow my brain down to be in this one tiny moment here. Not trying to take a photo of it, not trying to save it, even though that’s often my instinct.
“To take an example from the other day. Rudy, who’s my daughter, the back of her hair, it’s the best. Those little soft curls that one year-olds get. Just look at the sun in her curls and that is a great way to spend this moment. What could be more fun than that.”
Blake was speaking to radio and podcast producer Sarah Grynberg in her new PodcastOne series, A Life of Greatness.
He also revealed he meditates daily to help stay in the moment with wife Zoe Foster-Blake and their children.
“I do that all the time with the kids, just focus,’’ Blake said.
“I’m really just going to look at the shape of Sonny’s eye or I’m going to feel how soft Rudy’s hands are and just think of nothing else. Don’t hold her hand and think about what I’m going to make for dinner. Just take it in. I’m obsessed with the kids like every parent is, but I’m also floored by how little time you have with them.
“Having kids makes you put everything in sharp focus.
“In our 20s doing our job is our maximum priority. Now I have this other giant factor in life and it’s just a reshuffling of everything. Maybe it was kids or maybe it was going from your 20s to your 30s... you begin to get a better idea of what’s important to you and you want to prioritise that.”
