A TRENDY new latte adopted by AFL footballers and runway models is set to shake up Melbourne’s already complicated menu of hipster hot drinks.
Trend forecasters say the turmeric drink, or golden latte, is a craze being driven out of the Victorian capital, as the jaded soy-capp crowd looks for daring new drinks, including bulletproof coffee and beetroot lattes.
Ahead of a Melbourne launch, one golden latte brand claims to have AFL footballers, Australian test cricketers, actors and models on its books, and raving about the spice’s benefits as an anti-inflammatory.
“We have a fair few AFL stars drinking it everyday,” Tahli Watts, of Golden Grind, told Confidential.
“Models are loving it, and the cast of Singin’ In The Rain can’t get enough of it. They say it helps with their recovery.”
Melbourne coffee: Do our baristas have too much attitude?
The golden latte consis of turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper and milk — preferably coconut, almond or soy.
“I think it will complement Melbourne’s coffee drinking habits,” Ms Watts said.
“A lot of baristas panic when they hear about a coffee alternative.
“We’re not trying to take away from your initial coffee hit in the morning. We’re giving you another option in the afternoon.”
Golden Grind will launch at Uncommon, in Windsor.
