Manufacturing sector receives $2 billion boost

Georgia Geminder, granddaughter of late cardboard king Richard Pratt, has announced her engagement.

The former model is the eldest daughter of the nation’s third-richest woman, Fiona Geminder, and her rich-lister husband Raphael Geminder.

Geminder posted on Wednesday that she said yes to partner Matthew Danos.

“Last night was a dream. With my dream man xxxxxxxx love you forever.”

Congratulations came from the likes of Chyka Keebaugh, Lydia Schiavello, Liz Cambage, Montana Cox and Lana Wilkinson.

Geminder, a former Australian Grand Prix ambassador, spent seven years modelling in Australia, London and Los Angeles.

The 27-year-old has now turned businesswoman and is emerging as a clean beauty entrepreneur as she changes the image of oral heath care.

Geminder’s joy comes as other prominent families united recently over happy engagement news.

Ollie Howard, son of Victorian Governor Linda Dessau and her husband, Anthony Howard, a former County Court judge, is engaged to Lauren Thurin, granddaughter of property developer and philanthropist John Gandel.

Thurin is the daughter of Gandel’s daughter, Lisa Thurin, and her husband, David Thurin, a lifetime member of the Melbourne Demons and owner of Tigcorp.

Geminder launched Gem, her toothpaste and oral care brand last year, which replaces chemicals with natural ingredients.

While the brand has only been around for a year, it’s already stocked in retail giant Mecca and in dental clinics around Australia.

She has also launched Desert Fox, a range of affordable shampoos, body washes and hand creams.

Geminder’s mum, Fiona Geminder, owns cardboard giant Visy, while her dad Raph has a 40 per cent share in plastics manufacturer Pact.

“I funded the business based off my savings from modelling and my mum and dad helped me a little with stock and initial opening orders, but it’s basically been off an oily rag like most start-ups,” she told news.com.au in April.

“I started Gem when I realised there was a gap in market for chemical-free toothpaste that actually works. I was living in LA at the time and I was modelling and was surrounded by all these beauty products and I saw a shift in beauty to natural that I didn’t see in oral care, especially in toothpaste — they weren’t minty enough and didn’t have effective fluoride.”
