OUTSPOKEN former Geelong mayor Darryn Lyons is ready for another shot at politics after his term running the home of the Cats was cut short last year following state government intervention.
Lyons was dismissed by the Andrews Government after an inquiry found his council to be dysfunctional.
Describing himself as an “unemployed mayor”, Lyons said he was “revitalised and re-energised” and looking to higher office.
“I am spending my time as a professional holiday-maker and am looking at my next jump to whatever that may be in politics,” he said at the Caulfield Guineas yesterday.
“I am keen to be either premier of the state or prime minister of the country because both are going so badly, Daniel Andrews particularly — the man I love to hate.”
Lyons said that while he was formulating plans, he was yet to be wooed by political players at a state or federal level.
“I have not been courted yet, which I find kind of strange. I am keeping my options open.”
