The footy identities involved in the $10 million documentary series to be streamed on Amazon Prime have been revealed.
The seven hour-long episodes, titled Making Their Mark, will launch on March 12 next year.
They will feature star players — West Coast’s Nic Naitanui, Carlton’s Eddie Betts, GWS captain Stephen Coniglio and Adelaide’s Rory Sloane; plus Gold Coast Suns coach Stuart Dew and Richmond’s hierarchy, president Peggy O’Neal, chief executive Brendon Gale and coach Damien Hardwick.
The Magpies were one of several clubs targeted by Amazon executives, who are making the streaming giant’s first foray into Australian football content.
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire approached the Magpies’ football department about being part of the series but the advance was rejected.
McGuire’s media company Jam TV has produced the series that captures the highs and the lows of a COVID-19 interrupted season. It will air in 244 countries.
Executive producer of Making Their Mark, Jam TV’s Luke Tunnecliffe, said: “It
was important for us to share key moments of what goes on behind the scenes within the AFL.
“From locker room banter, coach’s sprays, on field collisions, management discussions and family life — this series captures the inner sanctum of the AFL landscape like never before.”
Amazon Prime Video has commissioned six original series in Australia since 2019.
“Making Their Mark provides fans incredible behind the scenes access in a history-making season like no other,” said AFL General Manager Media and Digital, Sarah Wyse.
Added director Gil Marsden: “A crisis like this year tested the strength and determination of every team in the league, whilst the teams continue to be delivering the best AFL for fans across the year.
“It is an incredible honour to be trusted by our clubs to witness first-hand their sacrifices and challenges this season, which culminates on screen with Richmond’s epic Grand Final win.”
