EDDIE McGuire’s poker face is strong in this homage to the classic James Bond film Casino Royale. But the veteran broadcaster admits he has nerves about The Footy Show’s return to prime time for the 2018 season.
“It’s been long while since I’ve been toey before doing a television or radio show,” McGuire told Confidential.
“But it’s like starting all over again. We’ve got a new cast, new producers, new set, so in a lot of ways it’s a new a show in a new format with a new dynamic.”

Former AFL stars Chris Judd, Dane Swan and Brendan Fevola have joined the team alongside Footy Show staples McGuire, Sam Newman. Bec Maddern, Billy Brownless and Shane Crawford.
“We have three genuine stars in Judd, Fevola and Swan,” McGuire said.
“Of course, you can have current day players, but none of them can say a lot because their media departments jump all over them ... and it’s a politically correct world.”
McGuire said the Casino Royale shoot was done in a flash.
“I felt like a novice compared to some of my other colleagues at the poker table. I’m more of a blackjack guy.”
He added: “The one thing I’ve learned in dealing with footballers is ... they’re all born performers. But you need to get them to concentrate for a minute and get the shot done quickly.”
Asked which one is Bond, McGuire laughed: “Sam is 007, mate. No doubt about that.”
The Footy Show premieres on Channel Nine at 8.30pm tomorrow.
