Dolly Parton’s hit musical 9 to 5 is coming to Melbourne this July.
”I am beyond excited to be bringing this show to Melbourne,” Parton said.
“The response from the UK to 9 to 5 The Musical has been incredible. I can’t wait for more people throughout Australia to have a good ole singalong, and the time of your life.”
The show opened at London’s West End last January for a short season but it was received so well that it is still running, with strong reviews helping to boost good ticket sales. It will open at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre in July.
9 to 5 The Musical is inspired by the hit 1980 film and sees the same characters – Doralee, Violet and Judy – incensed by the sexist behaviour of their boss so they hatch a plan to turn the tables on him in the hope of reforming their archaic workplace.
The Queen of Country, Parton has composed the entire score, including her much loved song 9 to 5.
It stars Caroline O’Connor, Marina Prior, Samantha Dodemaide and Erin Clare and the book has been written by the movie’s original screenwriter, Patricia Resnick.
Tickets for the show’s Melbourne season will go on sale on February 14 but a waitlist is already up and running at 9to5themusical.com.au
