A series of bizarre videos posted to social media by fashion identity Sarah-Jane Clarke, formerly of the sass & bide design duo, were the talk of Sydney’s fashion set last week, prompting vicious online comments concerning the Order of Australia recipient.

To coincide with the beginning of the annual alcohol-free fundraising event Dry July, Clarke posted to Instagram in the first week her “31 benefits of being AF (alcohol free)” and “Tips for making it through Dry July”.

Reading from a printout on July 1, mother-of-three Clarke rattled through her 31 benefits — stumbling at times with a list that included “life is less complicated”, “not feeling any shame (over) … drunk dancing” and the benefits of “walking in the bush, playing with your puppies”.

Feedback to the post was, for the most part, positive, but soured two days later after she published a photo of herself at champagne brand Veuve Clicquot’s Business Woman of the Year Awards on July 2 followed by her five tips for staying sober the next day.

“Good morning, ban the binges, how are you?,” she said saucily to camera on July 3.

The post drew comment from the fashion set including The Cry actor Alex Dimitriades, aka Alexandre Dimitriades Bentley on Instagram.

“Imagine referring to your imaginary watchers as “My ban the bing-ers (sic)”, he responded, adding vomiting emojis.

Clarke could not be reached for comment.
