Sydney designer Josh Goot’s eponymous fashion label has been placed into liquidation after several years dormant.

Goot was a regular fixture on the fashion and social scene for 15 years until he moved to New York in 2016.

In the lead up to the move Goot placed his company into voluntary administration, citing “well documented difficult trading conditions in the fashion industry”.

While it was reported he emerged on stable ground, in 2017 he and then girlfriend Christine Centenera started another label, Wardrobe.NYC, which is booming.

“This (liquidation) notice is for the closure of Josh Goot Pty Ltd, which hasn’t been trading for about 2 years,” Goot told Confidential. “It’s completely unrelated to Wardrobe.NYC.”

Liquidators Australian Business Rescue said it was too early to make any judgment on the number of creditors or amount owing.

They said that the company name had not been trading for a number of years, but did have accumulated debt owing to creditors.

The new label, Wardrobe.NYC, began as an online only model where collections were available to buy online only in packs of four and eight pieces ranging in price from $500 to $3000 and has seen meteoric success.

Celebrities including Kim Kardashian, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Gigi Hadid, David and Victoria Beckham, Margot Robbie and Ashley Graham have been spotted wearing the minimalist pieces and

Goot and Centenera split up romantically last year but remain business partners for the label and Centenera now dates Australia actor Joel Edgerton.
