Melbourne forward Tom McDonald and wife Ruby have shared their heartbreak after losing their baby girl.
The couple, who are parents to two young children, posted a touching tribute to social media with a picture cradling their stillborn.
“At 11.55pm on Sunday night, 21st of January our gorgeous Goldie Joan McDonald was born sleeping and became our angel above,’’ the caption read.
“Watching over us and her siblings until we meet again in wonderland.
“We are truly heartbroken to have lost our baby girl at 20 weeks, but know that she will be forever and always with us all.
“Thank you to everyone who has and continues to support our family, we will never be able to thank you enough for your kindness, love and care. Please be patient with us as we navigate life without our Goldie girl in our arms.”
The McDonalds, parents to Bella, 4 and Leo, 2, were flooded with messages of support and condolences. The couple got married in 2021, the same year McDonald played a key role in the Demons’ premiership.
The 31-year-old, who has played over 200 games, was turned into a forward and kicked 53 goals in the 2018 season.
He has spent portions of the 2024 pre-season training with the defensive group, where he started his career.
