Country Music Festival kicks off in Tamworth, NSW

Morgan Evans has been ticking a lot of bucket list boxes of late.

The Day Drunk singer is nominated for an ARIA award next month and this week will play sold out shows at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, a venue he’s dreamt of playing since he was a teenager.

“It is a dream to play the venue, so many musical memories of my life were made there and so I am excited to go and make another one on the stage,” Evans told Confidential on the phone before flying home to Australia from his Nashville base.

“Playing two Enmore Theatres in a row, I never thought I’d be doing that. The response to the music has been crazy and just kept on going. I am really looking forward to feeling what percentage of people at the show are country music fans and what percentage maybe don’t know as much country music.”

Evans, 34, has been working hard as a professional musician for more than a decade but it is really his second album — Things That We Drink To — that put him on the mainstream map.

His single Day Drunk was a massive hit here and overseas and the album is nominated for Best Country Album against Lee Kernaghan, Sara Storer, Felicity Urquhart and Charlie Collins at the upcoming ARIAs.

Evans will play the Enmore tomorrow and Friday night, as well as headlining the Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRA) in Brisbane on Saturday and playing gigs in Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Auckland before heading back to the US and Canada for a run of shows. Evans’ American singer wife Kelsea Ballerini will join him for part of his Aussie tour.
