Broadcaster and comedian Dave Hughes says he’ll miss his radio co-host Kate Langbroekin 2020, but added “it’s her right” to enjoy her new life in Italy.

Langbroek, part of the popular Hughesy and Kate brand for 20 years, is stepping down from the Fox FM drive show to extend her stay in Bologna.

Ed Kavalee, who has filled in for Langbroek in the second half of 2019, will join Hughes permanently under the Hughesy and Ed banner.

“Kate wanted to enjoy her experience in Italy and she didn’t want to do the (radio) show every day. That’s her right,” Hughes told Confidential.

Langbroek and husband Peter moved to Italy with their four children in late 2017. She later revealed their son Lewis’s battle with leukaemia inspired the move, adding: “There seemed something really life-affirming about having an adventure together as a family.”

Meanwhile, Langbroek will appear on Channel 10’s problem-solving show with a holiday twist, Hughesy, We Have A Christmas Special, on Monday.

MORE CONFIDENTIAL

The show, hosted by Hughes, has been renewed.

“The show was initially called First World Problems,” Hughes said. “I’ve still got that name attached to the producer in my smart phone. But I always thought first-world problems are just problems.

“I’ve been heavily involved with the show since day one, so if it doesn’t work, I can blame myself.”
