TRIPLE M has confirmed St Kilda favourite and former Richmond coach Danny Frawley won’t be part of its 2017 broadcast ranks.
Former Richmond and Gold Coast Suns player Campbell Brown has also been delisted from the Triple M team. But it would seem that former Hawthorn great Jason Dunstall is likely to stay with the network, despite rumours he was considering focusing on his Fox Footy commitments next year.
Frawley’s future with the network has been the subject of much speculation, with suggestions he was looking at sports station SEN.
SEN has gambled on a revitalised Garry Lyon, who is dating Nicky Brownless, the ex-wife of his former best mate Billy Brownless — and who has spent 2016 off the radar dealing with mental health issues — to boost the station’s breakfast shift and footy coverage ratings.
Triple M’s head of content Mike Fitzpatrick confirmed Frawley’s departure on Friday.
“Like any footy team, occasionally you need to let go of an older player to ensure you’re bringing through younger talent,’’ he said.
“You have to plan for the future. Our line-up next year is second to none... any team with (Paul) Roos, (Chris) Judd, (Wayne) Carey, (Brian) Taylor, (Wayne) Schwass, (James) Brayshaw, (Mark) Ricciuto, (Luke) Darcy and (Dennis) Cometti, to name a few, is hard to beat.’’
About Brown, Fitzpatrick said: “We recast our Saturday night line-up and didn’t have a spot for Campbell. We enjoyed having him at Triple M.’’
