Abbey Gelmi says it's time to throw out the rule book

Channel 7 presenter Abbey Gelmi has struck up a new romance with Richmond premiership star Kane Lambert.

The TV personality made the move to Melbourne a few months ago and stepped out with the three time premiership Tiger last week.

The pair attended the Accidental Weatherman book launch of Gelmi’s good friend, Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac, at Richmond’s London Tavern.

The pair have been keeping their relationship quiet and staying off social media.

Gelmi, who grew up in Perth, reverted to her maiden name after her marriage to fellow sports broadcaster Ben Way ended last year.

They tied the knot in November 2019, just a few months after she landed the role of House Rules co-host alongside Jamie Durie.

They wed in a beautiful ceremony in the Adelaide Hills with 140 guests including her grandfather, Olympic champion Herb Elliott, singer Rob Mills and Home And Away star Sam Frost.

The pair had been dating for three years, after meeting while they were both working at Fox Sports.

Gelmi, 31, has worked on the cricket, footy, horse racing and motorsport broadcasts and is set to feature during the Tokyo Olympics for Channel 7. She will anchor the coverage along with Hamish McLachlan, Johanna Griggs, Luke Darcy, Matt Shirvington, Edwina Bartholomew, Lisa Sthalekar and Andy Maher.

Gelmi also recently co-hosted Ultimate Tag with Shirvington.

She is close friends with another Tigers WAG Tayla Damir, partner of Nathan Broad, and has many well known friends.

Lambert, 29, joined the Tigers as a rookie in 2015 and has played 121 games with the club, including the 2017, 2019 and 2020 grand final wins.

In February Gelmi told the Herald Sun of her move to Melbourne: “It’s a fresh start for me, it’ll be nice. Given the year 2020 was, I was grateful to have work – and grateful to have lovely friends and be with my family.

“It makes sense to be in Melbourne. I did a bit of footy last season and loved it, so you’ve got to put yourself in the mix.”
