LOCAL celebrities, footy players, actors and media figures are getting behind a new fitness craze called F45.
Starting in Sydney three years ago, F45 recently came to Melbourne and there are currently nine gyms operating, with another 26 to open soon.
Channel 9 newsreader Tony Jones has only been doing the high intensity 45 minute circuit workouts from Port Melbourne for a couple of months, and his seen remarkable weight loss.
“I’ve become addicted to it, and I didn't’ think I would because I’ve never been into the whole gym culture,” he said.
“I think it’s the fact you don’t have to be super fit to start, but you do get super fit.
“I bought suits just before the Spring Carnival which I can’t wear now because they are swimming on me.”
The Port Melbourne gym is owned by Essendon footballer Dyson Heppell, Mark Armstrong and Michael Ramsey.
Jimmy Bartel was a partner but has sold out, but still is an ambassador.
Other footy players are also getting involved, including Brendon Goddard, who has believed to have bought a franchise in Richmond.
Neighbours star Matt Wilson, whose on screen colleague Olympia Valance also trains at F45, said he goes up to six days a week to the South Yarra gym.
“For me you can pretty much allow an hour, including a shower and time afterwards, to get to work,” he said.
“Usually if you want to train and get this amount of calories burnt, you have to take up to an hour and a half and sometimes that’s the last thing you want to be doing.”
Owner and trainer Michael Ramsey (pictured with Wilson), described F45 as: “high intensity, functional group fitness.”
In Sydney the likes of Hugh Jackman, Ricky Martin and Joel Madden have all trained at F45.
In Melbourne the list includes Jones, Wilson, Valance, Channel 9 newsroom’s Clint Stanaway and Kate McGrath, Alex Pendlebury, Rob Mills, Emelia Rusciano and actor Firass Dirani.
