BROADCASTER and comedian Wil Anderson will join Triple M Hot Breakfast alongside Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy.
Anderson, who also hosts Gruen on ABC-TV, replaces funnyman Mick Molloy who is moving to a national drive show with Jane Kennedy.
Anderson said: “I am a huge fan of the (Hot Breakfast) show. It’s been my lifeline to Melbourne as I have toured the world doing stand-up. I’m guessing I’ve probably heard more of it than Mick has.
“It’s a show that gives you the news, and makes the news, all with a laugh. So many times I have thought I would love to be part of that conversation, and now I’m rapt that get to, waking up with my favourite city in the world.”
On replacing Molloy, Anderson said: “They’re huge shoes to fill, even if those shoes walk 43 steps a day.”
Anderson also had a zinger for McGuire: “Ed’s got a good record with succession plans ...”
Without missing a beat, McGuire replied: “I can’t get rid of the Micks in my life!”
McGuire added: To replace someone like Mick you need to have the #1 pick in the draft, and we got him.
“I’m absolutely delighted to welcome Wil to the Hot Breakfast. With Wil in the morning, and Mick Molloy in the afternoons, Triple M is in the enviable position of having two of the most unique and successful comedians in Australian showbiz history.”
Anderson grew up in country Victoria and is a diehard Western Bulldogs fan.
Triple M’s Head of Content, Mike Fitzpatrick said: “Wil is one of the funniest and most respected comedians in the country. That, combined with his passion for music and footy, makes him the perfect fit to sit alongside Eddie and Darc. ”Molloy’s last Hot Breakfast show is October 6.
Anderson starts at Triple M on October 23.
It was announced in June that Molloy would be shifting to a new national drive program on Triple M from next year, which he will host alongside Jane Kennedy.
Molloy had been with the Hot Breakfast for the past seven years.
Kennedy began her career in radio and appeared with Mick on Triple M on the groundbreaking breakfast show The D-Generation.
She has been a regular contributor to The Hot Breakfast in recent years.
