The opening of the Birdcage was enough to get Eddie McGuire to break into a dance. See the marquees and check which VIP guests will be there during Cup Week.

Flemington opened its doors to unveil the reimagined Birdcage Enclosure with bigger spaces, sweeping views, indulgent cuisine, style and decadence.

After a two year hiatus the big names were back with Lexus, Kennedy, Paramount (Network 10), Penfolds, Villa Paradiso, G.H Mumm, TAB and Furphy all revealing their marquees, along with the VRC showcasing the brand new Bird Bath Bar and Croquet Lawn, where members and guests can spend the day throughout Cup Week.

Also part of the action this year is a Joey Scandizzo salon with Jade Kisnorbo make up, situated among the pristine sites which will house VIP guests.

“It’s personalised luxury and giving guests the ultimate experience,’’ said hospitality king Bruce Keebaugh, at the three storey Lexus Australia marquee.

“For the whole industry it’s a great thing. People see the frivolity and I see the economic rebound.”

Eddie McGuire, hosting the Melbourne Cup Carnival coverage for Network 10, welcomed guests with a DJ, the commentary crew and an impromptu dance.

“We’re baaaaack,’’ he said. “Let’s crank it up everybody. It’s an actual honour to be here and being such a Melbourne person, for this state, this city, it’s a joy.”
