After speculation Rebecca Judd would no longer appear on television, it’s been confirmed the mum of four has stepped down as a host on Postcards.
Judd had been working on the travel lifestyle show since 2011 with COVID halting production last year.
In November she quit her KIIS FM radio show saying she would be stepping back from media commitments to soak up the “golden years” at home with her four children and husband, former AFL superstar, Chris Judd.
Postcards has embarked on a new era with the show launching on Friday with some fresh and familiar faces. It was confirmed the Melbourne power WAG and businesswoman would not be part of Channel 9’s line-up.
“It’s not been as successful as it’s been without the heavy lifting from people like Bec over a long period of time,’’ said Postcards executive producer Mel Zahra.
“It’s just come to a time now where we’ve gone in different directions. I think COVID has been a leveller for a lot of people where people focus on what is important to them in their lives. She made a statement about wanting to focus on her family and that’s understandable.
“It’s worked for Bec for a very long time, it doesn’t go without saying at all. She was a very big part of the show’s heritage. It’s just different now.”
The show will feature presenters Shane Crawford, Sam Groth, Lauren Phillips, Shane Delia, Brodie Harper, Livinia Nixon and newcomers Madeline Slattery and Todd Woodbridge.
Crawford said: “Bec brought some real sophistication and glamour to the show... I don’t know how I’m going to do that in my jeans and T-shirt.”
When Judd announced she was quitting radio’s 3PM Pick Up in November, she said:
“It’s been one of those years, a COVID year, where we’ve spent so much time at home and as a family we’ve just really re-prioritised what we’re doing.
“This is the first time since Chris finished football which would have been back in 2015 that we haven’t had any commitments … and this year has taught us that we just want to take a step back and not really have those weekly commitments.
“He’s not doing radio anymore, I’m not doing radio anymore, we’ve got a lot of freedom in our schedule and we’re very lucky to have that.”
Judd, who has four children, Oscar, Billie and twins Tom and Darcy, was replaced on the 3pm Pick Up by Kate Langbroek.
She said: “I’ve got such a young family, my twins start at school, not next year but the year after.
“I’ve got one year left at home with them and we just really want to as a family really make the most of those golden years because they’re slipping away those golden years.
“It was something that we’ve spoken about for a long time, my husband and I, but it’s been one of those years where you just really re-evaluate your life — where you’re going, what you’re doing and we’ve seen so many big changes in lots of people lives. And this is ours.
“It might not be forever but so looking forward to having a bit of a different year next year, at home and enjoying that family time.”
