Channel 9 chief executive Hugh Marks said the hit show, hosted by Bec Maddern and Ben Fordham, has been forced to move from its home on Cockatoo Island, in Sydney Harbour, due to noise issues.

“Where we’ve been on Cockatoo Island, we’ve always had noise issues because water carries sound very well, and production can’t start until sunset,” Marks told Confidential.

“We might need to find another location — and we always envisaged (Ninja Warrior being based) in Melbourne.

Marks added: “Melbourne has always been a great supporter of Australian content, so it’s a good possibility.”

Meanwhile, Maddern says more women have risen to the challenge in the new season of Ninja Warrior, which premieres on Sunday.

“The women are phenomenal this year,” Maddern said. “It is really extraordinary to witness; what an example to set not just for their kids but for other mums out there.

“On some occasions I got tears in my eyes … it’s so empowering to watch that happen in front of you.

“There are so many great things that have happened for females in Australian sport in the past two years and this is just another addition to that.”

With more competitors, a longer course, and more semi-finals and grand final stages, Ninja Warrior promises more high-flying thrills and spills.

NOTORIOUS PARTY BOY MAKES SURPRISE TV RETURN

“There are some shocks, which make for a great TV show. There is no script to this.

“The underlying theme of the whole show is: ‘I’m going to give this a go.’ I think that makes up so much of the Australian psyche.”
