Avicii, born Tim Bergling, was found dead in a hotel room in Oman at the weekend. He had battled health issues.

Producer, DJ and musician Andy Van, from chart-topping acts Madison Avenue and Vandalism, recalled Bergling recorded and released music with the Melbourne label, Vicious, long before his breakthrough success with the hit Levels in 2013.

“I first met Tim in 2009 when we did a Vandalism gig in Stockholm,” Van said on social media.

“Ash (his manager) took us to his studio apartment and Tim played me his early tracks.

“I immediately wanted him to be part of the Vicious family. He was an incredible and prolific producer delivering many, great demos — so many we couldn’t release them all.

“We were always so impressed at his work ethic and desire to make great music in those early days. We had a fantastic time with him at Vicious.

“It is such a shame to lose such an amazing talented producer and song writer who made beautiful music and the world now has one less shining musical star.”

Lorne Padman, who also worked at Vicious with Van and DJ/producer John Course, said Bergling was “a wonderful young man, full of confidence and humility — two traits normally diametrically opposite.”

“I only wished I could have guided him for more than his first three years. I was excited for the return to your passion of producing,” he said.

Bergling quit touring two years ago, citing the DJ lifestyle as unhealthy.
