Beloved Australian musician Joe Camilleri is appealing for the return of nine cherished vintage guitars after his home in country Victoria was robbed last week.

Camilleri had been away for three days and arrived at his Kyneton home on Friday morning to discover the prized guitars gone, along with personal papers and computer equipment.

Bizarrely, the thieves also made off with shampoo, his cutlery, a leaf blower and a yellow wheelie bin.

“They did leave me one fork and one spoon, I don’t know what that means, it is kind of weird,” Camilleri said.

The valuable stolen guitars include a 1975 Fender Stratocaster, a 1990s Gretsch Rock Jet Black, a 1954 Gibson Switchmaster, a 1956 Gibson L5, a 1990s Gibson J 200, a 2010 Map Guitar Airline reissue, a 1964 National Map Guitar Black, a 1960 Gibson 330 and a 1967 Gibson Les Paul Cherry Top.

Left behind were several other guitars and Camilleri’s saxophones.

“The joke I say to all my friends is they have left the saxophones because I really need the practice,” a stunned Camilleri said on Saturday.

He appealed for the guitars to be returned and said the theft had put him off balance.

“I am not frightened, but all of a sudden your attitude changes to how you go about life,” he said.

“You become all of a sudden a little bit more insular.

“These are tools of your trade, most people don’t want to take something that belongs to somebody else. If you see the guitars anywhere please let the police know.”

Macedon Ranges Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the burglary that they believe took place around 10.30pm on Thursday night.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, has CCTV, dashcam footage or any other information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
