Australian supermodel Robyn Lawley has praised US designer Nicole Miller for featuring her in her New York Fashion Week show overnight, claiming most international fashion runways are “discriminatory” and “small minded”.
The curvy Sports Illustrated stunner, who says she was double the size of the other models in the show, spoke out to thank the designer for featuring size diversity.
“Runway runway runway.....you’ve seemed to be the last frontier for including some #sizediversity. I know it comes as a shock but I’m double the size of most models apart from height,” she wrote on her Instragram after the show.
“For so so long we’ve only shown fashion (in which everyone buys ) on a certain age, ethnicity and size demographic...which is well...stupid, discriminatory, small minded etc. I’m glad times are changing, it was awesome to be apart of and look I didn’t fall or showcase the ‘look’ less because of my size.”
It comes as Australian designer Dion Lee showcased his latest collection in New York featuring models who appeared to be a quarter of the size of Lawley.
Lee, a celebrity favourite and one of our most successful fashion industry exports, featured ethnically diverse models in his unisex collection, but some appeared painfully thin.
Lawley, mother to five-year-old daughter Ripley, has been vocal in the past about the lack of size diversity on the runway, particularly in relation to the iconic Victoria’s Secret shows which were cancelled last year.
