Wizard of Oz Cast makes a surprise visit

Lawyer-turned-TV host Andrew O’Keefe says he’s going to continue to take risks whatever his career holds.

Speaking for the first time since announcing his surprise departure from hosting Weekend Sunrise after 12 years last month, O’Keefe told Confidential he is open to opportunities.

“I am just giving myself some time to think about it. Obviously there are millions of things I’d love to be doing with myself, the question is, am I good at any of them and does anyone want me to do them?”

Putting to rest any suggestions of tensions before his departure from the Channel Seven breakfast show, the 46-year-old indicated his decision to leave was based on wanting to try new things.

“Nothing sort of ever progresses without a bit of risk as you know,” he said.

“I took a big risk getting into show business in the first place, and if you want something new to happen, you’ve got to let things go.

“As sad as it was, because I loved my team at Weekend Sunrise, I want to do something new.”

Although he has quit Weekend Sunrise, which he co-hosted with Monique Wright, O’Keefe will continue to be seen on our television screens in 2018 as the long-running host of popular game show The Chase Australia.

“I can’t tell you,” he said when pushed further on other potential projects, joking at the Sydney premiere of The Wizard Of Oz on Thursday night that musical theatre could be his next foray in entertainment: “With any luck, if anyone asks me, yeah.”

Seven is yet to announce a replacement for O’Keefe, with Simon Reeve and Sally Bowrey filling in for the summer break.
