Andrew Bogut says not being able to push his kids on a swing in the park was the final straw for his ailing body.

Bogut, who won an NBA championship with Golden State in 2015, retired effective immediately from basketball last month.

He parted ways with the Sydney Kings in May but was eyeing another Olympics campaign in Tokyo.

Bogut revealed details of his growing injury toll on SBS Courtside 1v1 with Megan Hustwaite, launching Thursday.

“For an 11am session I’d have to get there at 9am and do 40 minutes of physio, foam roll, stretch, rub a crap load of heat cream on me, then warm up slowly and then you see the young fellas show up, do a two-minute warm up and are right to go,’’ Bogut said.

“That was just training, you factor in games.

“I’d go home and not be able to play with my kids as much as I wanted to because my back’s a bit tight and I don’t want to tweak it before the game tomorrow. It was really affecting stuff away from the court.

“I’d go to the park with my kids and not be able to push them on the swing and that all factored into it.”

Bogut is one of Australia’s decorated players and was named the NBL’s MVP in 2019.

Hustwaite has just returned from two months in the Queensland hub as part of the Fox Sports and ABC commentary team for the WNBL.

The series Courtside 1v1 is part of SBS’ live coverage of the NBA and NBL and can be streamed live on Facebook and SBS on Demand.
