A DATE has not been set for the return of Red Symons to the presenter chair of ABC Radio Melbourne’s breakfast show.
The station revealed on Monday that Symons suffered a fall last week, while he was on a break during the non-ratings period.
“When walking home from the supermarket I experienced a sudden lack of consciousness,” Symons said in a prepared statement.
“This resulted in a fall, with my head hitting the pavement.
“I am currently in hospital, thankful to be receiving the best of medical attention and working on a speedy recovery.
“I’m sorry for this unexpected absence but I do look forward to getting back to work as soon as possible.”
There were some concerns the fall was the result of a stroke, ABC Radio Melbourne boss Warwick Tiernan said on air, but that turned out to not be true.
Symons wasn’t the only high profile Australian media personality to suffer a fall while on holidays.
Today host Lisa Wilkinson broke her arm in two places after a fall in an Italian hotel bathroom on Friday.

She has her arm in plaster, and is returning home early from her holiday with husband Peter Fitzsimons, to have surgery.
Today co-host Karl Stefanovic wished his long time colleague well yesterday on air.
She will be off air for at least another week.
