What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

An actual show. Not just talking, as The Birdmann and Egg do cool stuff to original music, like climbing inside a six-foot balloon, so it makes for the perfect mad yet sophisticated late night show.

Tell us what you’ve been up to since last time you were here.

Since last appearing at MICF in 2010, The Birdmann has teamed up with the multi-instrumentalist, composer, and comedienne, Egg of Japan.

The comedy duo have reached worldwide acclaim being nominated for Malcolm Hardee Awards’ Most Original Comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe, Just For Laughs’ Best Comedy at the Montreal Fringe and winning ‘Best Circus’ at the Adelaide and Melbourne Fringe Festivals.

Spruik it! Who should see your show, and why?

People who want to feel like this, “Fantastic! I felt so liberated and in love with my life. Like I could be fantastic too.” — The Plank.

What’s your No.1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

Leave the house, your expectations at the door and forget about life making sense for an hour.

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

Rumple is always a unique festival favourite.

What are you looking forward to in Melbourne?

We are looking forward to seeing the Escher X Nendo Between Two Worlds exhibition at the NGV, eating cake at Monarch’s in St Kilda and patting baby goats at the Collingwood Children’s Farm.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

A Late Night Birdhouse is entirely made up in our imaginations but is often described as The Muppets meets Miyazaki.

Anything else you want us to know about you or your show?

We’d just like to say thank you for this opportunity, plus Egg just cooked sticks in a non-stick pan so, we’ll just keep having fun with the mainstream and see you at the show.
