Melbourne International Comedy Festival comedian Q&A: Richard Stubbs, Cachinnation
Mix an unhealthy dose of overthinking, with too much imagination and too much time to ponder and you’ll relate to Richard Stubbs’ conclusions about everyday life.
Comedian Q&A
Don't miss out on the headlines from Comedian Q&A. Followed categories will be added to My News.
What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?
Everyone can expect to forget about whatever was worrying them when they walked in.
They will see life from my point of view, switch off and have a laugh.
Tell us what you’ve been up to since last time you were here.
Since my last MICF in 2017, I’ve been doing gigs all around the country. Travelling to regional areas, sleeping in motels and weird 20-somethings’ shared houses just to be at my best for you. Honestly, the least you can do is come and spend an hour with me.
Spruik it! Who should see your show, and why?
Well everyone should come to see it, naturally.
You’ll have a laugh and turn to each other and say ‘That was fun’.
Honestly, you will have had much worse nights.
What’s your No. 1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?
Go to the toilet first, you don’t need that tension.
Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?
Luke Heggie, because he’s hilarious and doesn’t come to Melbourne much.
Gabe Hogan, because she’s hilarious and is steadily working her way up in the local scene.
What stands out to you about Melbourne and/or its people?
The more you travel the more you appreciate Melbourne being laid out on a grid. So easy, just keep turning corners and you’re back where you started! Plus, there’s comedy on every corner — perfect.
Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?
Everyday life, after years of growing up with and surviving my family.
