If you want to see the world of stand-up from a woman’s point of view, check out those who’ve lived it, says Nicky Barry.

What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

The Jokemaids Tale is an irreverent look inside the world of stand-up from a woman’s perspective.

There’ll be bonnets, jokes, biting social commentary, more bonnets, songs, slapstick and a mega reveal at the end. Without bonnets.

BRITISH AND IRISH COMEDIANS TO SEE THIS YEAR

TOP COMICS REVEAL THEIR FAVOURITE COMEDIANS

If you’re new to MICF, tell us about you.

We’re two kweens of Melbourne’s stand-up comedy scene who have no time for rules, convention or PMS comedy (pale, male and stale).

We’ve written this show based on our experience as women somewhat over 25 who are building careers in comedy in spite of itself.

Spruik it! Who should see your show, and why?

Every woman who’s ever been told “no” should definitely see the show as should every bloke who is woke enough. We’re saving a complimentary seat for ScoMo every night but it will be right down the back. We’d hate him to get to the front at the expense of others.

What’s your No.1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

Undercover Myki inspectors always team to a theme. Spot five middle-aged folk in matching puffer jackets and you will need to touch on.

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

Anne Edmonds because she is sublime, Eve Ellenbogen’s Too Much because it is a great piece of work from an emerging star. Jonathan Schuster because he is always brilliant and about 300 more.

What stands out to you about Melbourne?

Melbourne has an extra special buzz during comedy festival and is open 24/7.

Bookend your comedy experiences with great food, some art gallery visits, live music, cocktail bar explorations.

Apparently there’s a bit of sport goes on here too but we don’t know about that. We keep fit by running from the patriachy.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

We are inspired by the forthright, the bleak, the absurd and the obscure. We also love a good vagina joke.

Anything else you want us to know about you or your show?

There will be nothing else remotely like our show in all the festival. Our poster quotes say it all — come see us!!!
