What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

My show I Love Comedy explores what comedy actually is.

Along the way it touches on everything from sexual politics to the cultural meaning of the airport Nandos.

COMEDY SHOWS TO SEE WITH YOUR MATES

SHOWS TO SEE WITH YOUR PARENTS

I sharpened my comedy-writing teeth in the notoriously unfunny world of corporate speechwriting.

This was actually weirdly perfect training for comedy.

What have you been up to since last time you were here?

Following my debut show at MICF last year I moved down the coast and spent most of the year in Inverloch, Gippsland.

Yes it was partly a pretentious “oh look at me I live in the country now” sea-change.

After two weeks I was acting all Maggie Beer, sending friends pictures of myself next to the fire with a bit of straw in my mouth. Truth is I’m from South Melbourne — more a “sushi in a shopping centre” kind of guy.

But it was genuinely restorative and good for the soul.

I wrote some new comedy stuff and fell in love with the Banksia trees that grow wild in the area.

There was a nice boardwalk which, on a daily basis, I assure you I walked the absolute sh*t out of.

Who should see your show, and why?

Mothers should bring their daughters to see my show.

It will be very educational for both of them.

What’s your No.1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

See the weird ones. Take a chance.

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

Excited to see Eleanor Tiernan — young Irish comedian who was hilarious in the New Order showcase last year. Great to see she has her own show.

What do you love about Melbourne?

I’m from Melbourne.

Whenever I host international guests the first thing I do is take them to Docklands.

Pretty much anything after that seems so romantic and full of life.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

I am comedically inspired by awkward people.

Thankfully they are everywhere.

I am one of them.

Anything else you want us to know about you or your show?

You know they say the worse your art is, the easier it is to talk about?

On that note my show is SHOOO BADOOOO BADOOO YUP YUP YUP, MEOW.
