Frequent flyer Mel Buttle sees the funny side of breaking up with her partner and looking after her ailing dog, sharing funny tales of life while traversing the globe.

What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

It’s a stand-up show, there’s no politics or uplifting messages. There are jokes about Lush, though.

What have you been up to since last time you were here?

Two breakups and my dog had to have a toe removed — it’s been a big year for Buttz.

Who should see your show, and why?

Please come and see my show, I’ve bought a used European car and the servicing is killing me.

Anyone who knows how to replace a CV joint is more than welcome to attend.

What’s your No.1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

Grab a drink around the corner at Embla, it’s my favourite bar in Melbourne.

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

Anne Edmonds, she blew us all away with Helen Bidou last year and I can’t wait to see what she serves up this year.

What stands out to you about Melbourne?

This is my ninth comedy festival, I’ve learned to eat in Little Bourke St, drink at Bar Americano, get coffee and doughnuts from Short Stop and if I’m bored, the zoo is a fun way to fill in a few anxious pre-show hours.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

People who make me laugh inspire me.

I love Luke Heggie, Greg Larsen, Becky Lucas and Nick Cody.
