Melbourne International Comedy Festival comedian Q&A: Lloyd Langford, Why The Big Face?

Look forward to some funny observations from a comedian from the United Kingdom living Down Under

What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

It’s a stand up comedy show about some very difficult situations I’ve found myself in over the past couple of years. I’ve also been living in Australia for a few months now, so there’ll be some observations about that.

What have you been up to since last time you were here?

Oh boy. Lots of things, many of which I talk about in the show.

Getting stuck in a snowstorm in New York with James Acaster.

Bodily function issues in a Japanese airport.

Getting asked to do a TV show for and then being blanked by Kevin Hart.

A massage with a very unhappy ending. It’s been eventful.

Who should see your show, and why?

Clive Palmer. I have some thoughts about his adverts.

What’s your No.1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

Arrive early, go to the toilet beforehand. Turn your phone off.

If you can’t handle alcohol then don’t get drunk. Don’t speak until spoken to. I know these sound really basic but you wouldn’t believe the number of absolute spanners that can’t follow these rules.

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

Alice Snedden, Greg Larsen, Geraldine Hickey, Tim Vine, Fern Brady, Urzila Carlson, Phil Wang, Carl Donnelly, Anne Edmonds, Eleanor Tiernan, Ben Russell, Zack Dyer and Maria Bamford. All very different styles but all brilliant comics.

Also, I’m not sure if Cait Johnson is doing a show but you should really go see her because she’s brilliant.

What stands out to you about Melbourne and/or its people?

In the United Kingdom, if someone flashes their car headlights at you, it means you’ve forgotten to switch your own car headlights on.

In Melbourne, it means that the cops are nearby. It sums up the people perfectly. Friendly, with an intense distrust of authority.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

At the moment, Clive Palmer and his adverts.

It’s pretty obvious if you’ve had the misfortune to see any of them.

Anything else you want us to know about you or your show?

If you like the pre-show music and you ask nicely, I’ll make you a mixtape.
