If you’re one of those people who overthink and symptom-Google a little too much, you’ll ache for this show, says Laura Buskes

What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

A blend of song and sketch about mental health, coping mechanisms, and a peppering of feminism.

Expect a lot of satire, parody, and bunch of silliness.

BRITISH AND IRISH COMEDIANS TO SEE THIS YEAR

TOP COMICS REVEAL THEIR FAVOURITE COMEDIANS

If you’re new to MICF, tell us about you. If not, tell us what you’ve been up to since last time you were here.

This is the first time that the five of us will be working together, but a few of us have been involved in a number of other festivals in various capacities.

A few of the girls are involved in Completely Improvised Potter, which has been a sellout most nights.

Spruik it! Who should see your show, and why?

Anyone who likes those self-deprecating memes, and Googling symptoms a little too much.

It’s a great show for anyone who’s a little too introspective, but can still laugh at themselves.

What’s your No. 1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

Check out comedians you’ve never heard of before, and try out new genres and styles that you wouldn’t normally see.

Flip a coin, or flip to a random page in the festival guide and blindly point to one.

There’s a lot of talented acts out there and they’re worth a watch.

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

I love the NZ improv group Snort.

They are hilarious improvisers and the troupe houses a number of great stand-ups (such as Alice Sneddon and Rose Matafeo). I’m also excited to see Hit by a Blimp who do amazing narrative sketch.

What stands out to you about Melbourne?

I’m Melbourne born and bred. I love this city because of its never-ending night-life and culture.

Melbourne has a diverse range of opportunities for every interest.

It’s a cold little town most of the time so we’ve had to find fun things to do indoors, and we did a good job of it.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

I’m a big fan of Tim Minchin; he’s probably the reason why comedic songwriting is my go to when it comes to writing comedy.
