Karen Sims may not swear often, but she’ll happily give you her shameless judgements and opinions on anything and everything.

What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

People can expect a quite funny evening with witty anecdotes spanning many topics.

It’s a safe place most of the time however, just as a wombat can turn fierce and destructive so can Karen when pushed.

Politics, religion, sex, relationships, the workplace. Karen is an expert on all these topics and more.

Tell us what you’ve been up to since last time you were here.

I could not possibly begin to tell you.

Spruik it! Who should see your show, and why?

Karen does not swear profusely during her show, in fact, swears hardly at all. It’s a pleasant change from many comedians who fill their show with gratuitous naughty language, which is transparent trickery.

What’s your No.1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

If you are aged between 40-140 and consider yourself informed, hip, cool and engaged, come along for a night of gentle laughs, some cackles, and scintillating conversation.

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

Oh wow! Becky Lucas, Anne Edmonds, Cal Wilson, Tom Gleeson, Josh Earl.

Why? Because they are hilarious.

Who won’t I see? International acts who, in the past, have indelicately revealed that they are trying their material before they go on to a bigger festival. Rudeness! If I wanted to be a guinea pig I would eat carrots and lettuce.

Reminds me of a story — my sister once sat on guinea pig...

What stands out to you about Melbourne?

I’ve been to and in Melbourne on and off for 52 years.

What stands out is expensive coffee, black clothing in winter and that I get skinnier every year.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

Life is funny and weird and worth analysing. Sometimes I wish I could let life wash over me but there’s always so much to say about it. And I worked with a guy called Eamon who was hysterically funny. He inspires me to be a strong average next to him.

Anything else you want us to know about you or your show?

Written, produced, directed and performed all by one person. And funded by my day job.
