Melbourne International Comedy Festival comedian Q&A: HomeBrand Comedy, The Conference

Forget boring, nonsensical meetings at work — office life and politics has never been funnier with HomeBrand Comedy.

What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

Lots of crazy characters and weird scenarios in the fishbowl that is a corporate conference.

An exploration of the corporate world from the perspective of three young newcomers to office life.

It presents a unique perspective from between the world of youth and adulthood of what it’s like to be stuck behind a desk.

What have you been up to since last time you were here?

Spawning from Gravel in 2018, HomeBrand Comedy represents the three who were stupid enough to get back up and come back for more.

In the past year, we’ve been hard at work picking out the weirdness of the world and developing many hilarious (and some really bad and now trashed) sketches.

Who should see your show, and why?

Anyone with a job.

Anybody who’s ever sat in a meeting and felt their soul slipping away.

Anybody who has had to deal with bureaucracy and its incredible inefficiencies.

This show pokes fun at all those who are ‘too important’ to laugh at themselves.

The show is brand new, original and Australian with a fresh cast you probably don’t know yet.

Give it a go, it’s quite cheap.

What’s your No.1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

Don’t be late. Comedy waits for no man (or woman).

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

Judith Lucy Vs. Man, Lano and Woodley — Fly, Hannah Gadsby — Douglas, Fairbairn Films — Yip Yip Chahoo, Nazeem Hussain — Basic Idiot, Bombastic JOE — Fiery Depths of Heck.

What do you love about Melbourne?

The way Melbourne comes alive during the comedy festival is always so astoundingly beautiful.

Running the flyer gauntlet outside the Town Hall is always a good evening competition.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

We are inspired by all kinds of people in comedy.

The internet is such a rich source of bizarre and wonderful comedy, with people like Tim and Eric, SNL and Aunty Donna on tap.

Closer to home, we’ve had the privilege to work with and listen to Shaun Mic.

Anything else you want us to know about you or your show?

Lou has a lot of dreams about people not coming so please don’t make them come true.
