Melbourne International Comedy Festival comedian Q&A: Frenchy, Turn It Up

Don’t let the name fool you, Frenchy is rude, rogue Aussie comedy at its best.

Frenchy, Turn It Up, Melbourne Comedy Festival 2019.
Frenchy, Turn It Up, Melbourne Comedy Festival 2019.

What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

One man, turning it up for 60 minutes.

Tell us what you’ve been up to since last time you were here.

What haven’t I been up to!

THE A-Z OF COMEDIAN Q&AS

YOUR GUIDE TO THE MELBOURNE COMEDY FESTIVAL

I bought an electric scooter, took a few naps, got herpes, climbed a tree, cured my herpes, climbed another tree, realised herpes is incurable, had a cry, rode my scooter down to the shops and did half a crossword. Big year.

Spruik it! Who should see your show, and why?

Anyone with enough money to buy a ticket.

Seriously, I don’t care as long as I’m making money bring anyone — kids, Scientologists, redheads. You can even bring your pets if you buy them a ticket. (No cats though.)

What’s your No. 1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

Wear something extravagant, sit in the front row and yell things out during the punchlines. Comedians love it, it’s a sure way to make friends.

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

I saw a hypnotist last year and I wanna see him again cause he was awesome.

But what if I was hypnotised to think that …? Hmm …

What stands out to you about Melbourne?

The trams — lol! What century is Melbourne stuck in? Is polio cured yet?

Also, the hipsters are next level.

Who is your comedic inspiration, and why?

Pauline Hanson is a bit of a lol.

Anything else you want us to know about your show?

If you sit in the front row I will talk to you, so choose your seat carefully. Also, it’s a f---ing funny show, but it’s rude, rogue Aussie comedy (for those who couldn’t figure that out). I need to mention this so I don’t get a posh French couple in the front row again thinking I’m a witty French comic. How do you say ‘bloody awkward’ in French …

FRENCHY, TURN IT UP, MARCH 27-APRIL 21, Athenaeum Theatre two , 188 Collins St, Melbourne. Book tickets
