Melbourne International Comedy Festival comedian Q&A: Charisa Bossinakis, Paquito

With a career in professional sport quashed, it’s only fair that you turn to comedy for a few laughs while you question where it all went wrong, says comedian Charisa Bossinakis.

What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

I delve into social issues that women face, more specifically how politeness can be women’s biggest downfall and how I confuse the Nile and Amazon rivers.

You know, very interchangeable stuff.

What have you been up to since last time you were here?

Since I’ve performed at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, I did the Sydney Comedy Festival and also got into that show Shameless.

When I say ‘got into shameless’, I’m not in the actual show, I just watch/appreciated William M Macy.

Who should see your show, and why?

Everyone. ‘They’ say my show is not for kids, but I think the more you shelter kids the more unhinged they become.

My best friend growing up, was a devoted Christian who wasn’t allowed to watch Harry Potter and now she sadly asks for no jalapenos on her nachos (crazy).

I’m not saying her strict upbringing was responsible for her bland palette, but it’s not ’not’ responsible for her bland palette.

What’s your No.1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

Go see as many shows as possible, even see acts you’re not familiar with and organise a late bite at Hochi Mama.

I don’t work for them, I just think they do really bomb spring rolls.

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

Becky Lucas, Aaron Chen, Daniel Sloss, Anne Edmonds, Nazeem Hussain, Ronny Chieng, Dilruk Jayasinha, Demi Lardner, to name a few.

What are you expecting Melbourne to be like?

I live here, so I’m expecting it to be similar to every other day.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

James Blunt’s Twitter account, it’s art.

Anything else you want us to know about you or your show?

I promise I will keep audience interaction to a minimum.

I pinky swear ***kisses pinky as well***.
