What can people expect from your show at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival?

Expect to be surprised.

Expect to be rewarded for paying attention, expect callbacks interspersed with silly throwaway jokes and sketches.

Mostly expect to laugh.

BRITISH AND IRISH COMEDIANS TO SEE THIS YEAR

TOP COMICS REVEAL THEIR FAVOURITE COMEDIANS

If you’re new to MICF, tell us about you.

This is our first time performing at MICF.

We came along last year to see a bunch of shows (19 in 5 days) and get some inspiration for our own content.

We loved it so much we decided to come back for longer this year and bring our new show with it.

We’re a group of three performers — Dan, Bruno and Jacob — who have been doing comedy together since 2015.

With backgrounds in filmmaking, music, improv and all sorts of comedy, our primary goal is to make sure people are laughing and are never bored.

We write things we think are funny and then work to bring the audience in on that humour.

Who should see your show, and why?

See our show if you like absurd, silly stuff and want to laugh.

The show is definitely different to a lot of the more traditional stand up going around the festival, we work really hard and put a lot of thought into making a show that’s completely stupid.

If you want to get a taste to see whether we’re your thing, check out Burger King Illuminati on YouTube.

Most of our sketches are under a minute so it doesn’t take long and if you like our sense of humour you’ll love the show.

What’s your No.1 tip for people coming to see a show at the comedy festival?

Make a night of it and see a few.

There’s so much interesting and different stuff to see in this festival, and the quality is so high.

I normally try to plan a night to see at least one show I know I’ll love and one show I know next to nothing about and am taking a punt on, most of the time I enjoy it and even if it’s bad, it’s fun to see a bad show every now and again (not our show though, our show is good I promise).

Which other comedians/shows are you keen to see at this year’s festival, and why?

There’s so much in this festival we’re keen to see, and hopefully we’ll find time for it all. We’re super excited to finally get to see James Acaster and Maria Bamford live.

We follow Tom Walker and Demi Lardner’s career pretty closely but we’re keen to see their new shows since they’re always amazing.

I’ve been getting into Boners of the Heart lately, and am very keen to see Rose Matefeo and Alice Snedden’s shows, and so much more, like Rachael Milanta, Clare Cavanaugh, Daniel Sloss, Maddie HW, Carlo Ritchie … that’s probably too many. I’ll stop.

What stands out to you about the city and/or its people?

We love Melbourne.

The first thing that stood out to us is how lively and vibrant the city is, especially at night.

Sydney can often feel like a ghost town between construction in the CBD and the lockout laws.

And though we aren’t exactly the kind of guys who want to go clubbing ’til 5am — there’s something very nice about a city where people are around and stuff is happening into the night.

Who or what is your comedic inspiration, and why?

Our sense of humour draws heavily on the TV we grew up laughing at — Bruno’s seen every sitcom under the sun, Dan loves SpongeBob and British comedy, and Jacob knows The Simpsons like the back of his hand.
